Don’t have time for multiple visits to the dentist? At Urban Dental, Dr. Jessica Kim uses the latest CEREC technology to provide custom-fit, same-day crowns in a single visit.
First, you’ll come into our office to have your mouth examined, and Dr. Kim will determine whether or not a CEREC same-day crown is right for you.
If Dr. Kim thinks a same-day crown is a good option, she will begin preparing your tooth right away. Your tooth will be cleaned and the area will be numbed. She will then remove any remaining decayed or damaged enamel with a dental drill.
Once this is done, she will use a hand-held CEREC 3D intraoral scanner to create a detailed digital image of your teeth and bite, and upload the image into the CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Manufacturing) machine. Dr. Kim will then create the design of your crown, and the CEREC milling machine will cut the crown out of a solid block of porcelain.
The crown will then be placed and Dr. Kim will ensure it fits perfectly. If everything looks good, it will be bonded into place immediately with dental cement, completing the procedure. In just 2-3 hours, your crown will be complete and your smile restored.
If you have a damaged tooth, a large cavity, or a failing filling or dental crown, a same-day crown may be right for you. Depending on the condition of the tooth, Dr. Kim will determine the best option by choosing the most appropriate material that will be the strongest and most conservative option for you.
Most crowns can be done on the same day, however, there are situations that require special consideration, like when a tooth is broken deep into the gum line. Dr. Kim will always do whatever is best for the long term success and longevity of the restoration. Contact us today at (619) 696-0510 for a consultation, and find out if a CEREC same-day crown is right for you.
CEREC crowns typically last between 10 and 15 years, just as long as a traditional, lab-made crown. But with proper care, such as brushing, flossing, and seeing Dr. Kim for regular teeth cleanings and exams, it’s common for CEREC crowns to last even longer.
The cost of CEREC crowns varies depending on each patient, due to factors like tooth location, crown size, and whether or not an old filling or crown is being replaced. However, the cost of CEREC crowns is comparable to traditional crowns.
Dr. Kim will choose the most esthetic and durable material based on the needs of your tooth. Rest assured that Dr. Kim uses the best materials and cements to ensure a customized crown that will last for many years.
