At Urban Dental, Dr. Jessica Kim specializes in preventive care and general dentistry. Our goal is always to keep your smile healthy and free of common oral health issues like gum disease and tooth decay. Schedule a six-month cleaning and exam with Dr. Kim and get your smile on track to a lifetime of health and wellbeing.
Teeth cleanings are crucial for lasting oral health. Every six months, your teeth will be cleaned to remove plaque, and be examined to ensure that your mouth is healthy.
In addition, you can keep your teeth and gums in top form by making sure to keep a good oral hygiene routine at home. It’s important to brush at least twice a day for two minutes, ideally once after breakfast and once before bed. You should also floss once a day to remove plaque and food particles from between teeth that brushing alone cannot reach.
Fluoride treatments are used to remineralize and strengthen teeth. Dr. Kim will apply a thin layer of fluoride-rich gel or paste to your teeth and leave it in place for a few minutes. This will help to remineralize your teeth by attracting minerals to your enamel, strengthening it and even reversing minor decay or soft spots.
Dental x-rays are usually required at your first appointment at our office, and then taken annually to ensure a comprehensive and thorough evaluation. X-rays are a safe and effective way for Dr. Kim to look for potential hidden issues with your smile, and ensure that your mouth is free of gum disease, cavities, and more.
Dental sealants consist of a liquid resin, which is applied to the rear teeth after they have been cleaned, and is hardened with a UV light. This creates a strong, invisible barrier that stops cavities by protecting your enamel from direct contact with bacteria, acid, and food particles. Sealants can last up to 10 years, making them an effective, long-term way to keep your teeth free from cavities and decay.
As a part of every six-month cleaning, Dr. Jessica Kim will perform a thorough oral cancer screening. She will examine your mouth for potential warning signs, and ensure that you get appropriate treatment if she notices any potential areas of concern.
We also offer a special oral cancer screening exam with our Vizilite which allows for early dectection of abnormal cell growth. Detecting oral cancer early can increase the survival rate to 80%–90%
If you're missing a tooth, a dental implant can help prevent bone resorption and teeth shifting. Dental implants use a two-part structure, consisting of a metal artificial root and a porcelain dental crown. The crown attaches to the titanium root, which is surgically placed into your mouth and permanently bonds with your jaw bone. Dental implants can last 30+ years, never move or shift, and look and feel completely natural, making them a great option for replacing missing teeth.
